Juggling in Movies

The Jewel of the Nile (1985)

[Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, Danny DeVito, Spiros Focás]

This is the sequel to Romancing the Stone, where Jack (Michael Douglas) and Joan (Kathleen Turner) have their yacht and easy life, but are gradually getting bored with each other and this way of life. Joan accepts an invitation to go to some middle eastern country as a guest of the sheik, but there she is abducted and finds herself involved with the "jewel." Jack decides to rescue her with his new partner Ralph. They go from one adventure to another.

The Flying Karamazov Brothers play a band of sufis and juggle and pass scimitars. Avner Eisenberg, who incorporates juggling in his one-man physical comedy shows, has a large role. The FKB's, consisting of Paul Magid, Howard Patterson, Randy Nelson, Sam Williams, and Tim Furst, can be seen in the background throughout the whole film. Juggling is featured prominently several times.

At 0:27:43, the desert dancing scene lasts nearly 2 minutes and has almost nonstop juggling throughout.

At 1:09:50, we see a minute of walking and juggling on hot coals.

At 1:40:26, all 5 FKB's pass torches around a central torch juggler for 5 seconds.

At 1:41:26, as Joan and Jack's wedding ends, the newlyweds walk between 6 jugglers with 3 machetes each, and a few seconds later they are with Ralph (Danny DeVito).
